King's Landing Hill

Fire & Blood

King's Landing Hill, also known as Aegon's High Hill, is remembered in this account as the place where Viserra Targaryen's reckless night out ended in her death. At its foot, a race back to the castle turned abruptly into a fatal collision, and the princess was later found dead in an alley nearby.

The Fatal Ride

Near midnight, Viserra Targaryen and the companions still able to ride raced through the streets toward the castle. Several knights had already become insensible from drink. When the riders reached the foot of Aegon's High Hill, Viserra's palfrey collided with one of her companions. His mare fell and broke his leg beneath her; Viserra was thrown headfirst into a wall, breaking her neck.

The News and the Place's Significance

At the hour of the wolf, Ser Ryam Redwyne of the Kingsguard woke Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Alysanne Targaryen to tell them their daughter had been found dead in an alley at the foot of the hill. The narrative thus links the hill not only to the accident itself but to the discovery of Viserra's body and the moment her death reached her parents. Its significance here is intensely local: the approach to the castle becomes the boundary between the night's exhilaration and an irreversible loss.
